Different Fillings for Coffee Capsules

Different Fillings for Coffee Capsules

One of the most sought-after attributes of great coffee is consistency in taste. People like their coffee to taste the same every day. It is this desire that set the foundation and stage for the modern coffee capsules we all love.

When Eric Favre invented and patented the Nespresso system in 1976, his main goal was to deliver a great consistent taste to all coffee lovers.

Not only did the capsules deliver a consistent coffee taste, but they also allowed even people with little coffee knowledge to brew a cup of joe quickly on their way to work.

Some people love a great cup of coffee but know little about how it is made. They are too busy to learn or have no interest in learning how to do it. You can’t blame them.

Today, the perks of using capsules have been noticed by other industries, and they, too, want a piece of it. This is why more and more companies are using capsules for non-coffee fillings.

Here are only some of the options for capsule fillings available these days:

1.  Protein powder

If you love coffee and spend time on TikTok, you might have seen a trend that went viral a while ago. It involved mixing protein with coffee and creating what Gen Zers call proffee.

Interesting as it sounds, it is a thing now. If you have a reusable aluminum capsule at home, fill it with coffee and put it in your coffee machine. Add a spoonful of protein powder, and there you have it.

Alternatively, you can fill the capsule with protein powder for a different experience.

2.  Vitamins

If you think about it, it’s a great idea. Consider it an alternative to those pesky little pills. It’s a better way to boost your body through your morning coffee or tea.

A few companies have realized that consumers enjoy taking vitamins the same way they enjoy taking their coffee. In some cases, customers even prefer mixing the two. Rather than create two separate products, these companies have infused coffees and teas with vitamins.

Some of the companies doing these include:

    1. NUTRA CUPS®
    2. VitaCup®
    3. Pure Raum

Most of these cups are compatible with standard coffee cup extraction machines.

Note: Before switching your vitamin regimen from pills to cups, please consult your doctor or physician.

3.  Hot chocolate

It is essential to know that Nespresso has no chocolate capsules in its product lineup. However, third-party companies have developed chocolate capsules compatible with many Nespresso machines.

Some of these companies include:

    1. Caffeluxe. Caffeluxe is a South African brand that produces hot chocolate capsules that are compatible with various Nespresso machines. For instance, they are compatible with Inissia, Lattissima, Maestria, etc.
    2. Primo Caffe. Primo Caffee is not a new company. It was founded in 1987 in Australia and has since then sold a single hot chocolate capsule option. The option is compatible with many existing Nespresso machines.

There are more organizations you can get hot chocolate capsules from; this list is not exhaustive.

4.  Tea

There are various types of tea available in capsules. Examples include black, yellow, oolong, and red tea.

Unlike hot chocolate, Nespresso makes tea capsules. This is unknown to many because their coffee often outshines many of their other products.

However, many third-party organizations make tea capsules compatible with many of Nespresso’s machines. They include:

    1. Dualit Limited
    2. Teespresso
    3. Red Espresso
    4. Lipton

Nespresso sells tea capsules in various flavors like earl grey, chamomile, and lavender.

5.  Chai Latte

A chai latte has three main ingredients: steamed milk, black tea, and some spices. Despite its name, a chai latte has nothing to do with a coffee latte; it has no trace of coffee.

Its origin can be traced back to India thousands of years ago. Today, everywhere you go, people use different blends of spices. No single recipe exists for the beverage. Chai latte lovers from different parts of the world enjoy the drink differently.

Some common flavors of chai latte are ginger and cinnamon.

Although Nespresso does not sell chai latte capsules, several organizations make capsules compatible with existing Nespresso machines. They include:

    1. NESCAFE Dolce Gusto
    2. The Republic of Tea
    3. Gourmesso

Be sure to check the packaging for the ingredients. You will be able to tell the spices present in the chai before you buy.

6.  Margarita

If you thought only hot beverages come in capsules, think again. Margaritas also come packed in capsules. Typically, they blend tequila, lime juice, and lemon juice, and sometimes also contain some orange juice.

How a margarita is served varies from individual to individual. However, they are high in sugar and may cause a spike in blood sugar levels, which may have some mild to severe side effects depending on the individual’s sugar tolerance.

Bartesian is the most popular manufacturer of margarita capsules. Their capsules come in a range of flavors like classic, pomegranate, and spicy flavors.

7.  Rum breeze

In addition to margarita capsules, Bartesian also makes rum breeze capsules.

Up to this point, we’ve established that most capsules combine several ingredients. Rum breeze is no different. The capsules contain ingredients like tropical pineapple juice, coconut, strawberry juice, lime, and, of course, rum.

Rum breeze capsules are bought in packs of six capsules.

8.  Golden milk

Golden milk originates from India. In Hindi, it is referred to as haldi doodh. It is a mixture of white milk and turmeric, which is why it is also known as turmeric milk in pop culture. The turmeric gives the milk its golden color.

This beverage, traditional as it is, has not been left behind when it comes to packaging in capsules. Because it is perceived to have numerous health benefits, other ingredients, like ginger, may be included in the capsules.

Some well-known manufacturers of golden milk capsules include:

    1. Garden of Life
    2. Amoda Tea
    3. Ora Organic

If you love chai latte, you’ll love golden milk.

9.  Kombucha

Kombucha is a type of tea. Most of its fans swear by its health benefits. It is prepared by mixing sugar, yeast, black tea, and a culture of bacteria and yeast. Sometimes, the culture is known as SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast).

The mixture is allowed to ferment for approximately one to two weeks before it is prepared for consumption. Due to the fermentation process, kombucha contains low levels of alcohol content.

Kombucha capsules include fermented Kombucha powder. Several companies manufacture kombucha capsules:

    1. MCB Group
    2. Better Booch
    3. Happy Herbalist

The goal of kombucha is not to get one intoxicated. The alcohol in kombucha is merely a by-product of the preparation process.

Conclusion

Capsules are great. They simplify our lives. It is no surprise that other manufacturers outside the coffee industry want to tap into the perks capsules offer.

The list of non-coffee fillings covered in this article is not exhaustive. Depending on your preference, it might be a good idea to look around and see if your favorite drink comes in a capsule.

More companies are using different fillings for aluminum capsules. Not all of them are compatible with your machine. Always remember to check the compatibility of the capsules you wish to purchase with your machine before making the investment.

Alternatively, consider getting a machine compatible with the most common capsule sizes across different industries.
